Therapeutic peptides are short chains of 2–50 amino acids that act as specific molecular signals in the body, activating receptors with high selectivity and minimal systemic effects. Unlike hormones (more global signals) or small-molecule drugs (non-specific action), peptides mimic the body's own physiological signals. The most widely used in longevity are BPC-157 (tissue repair), TB-500, GHK-Cu (skin and regeneration), Epithalon (telomeres), and GH secretagogues (CJC-1295, Ipamorelin).

Bioregulatory peptides were primarily developed by Dr Vladimir Khavinson (Institute of Gerontology, St Petersburg) in the 1970s, initially for Soviet soldiers and astronauts. His 40 years of research includes human studies with Epithalon showing telomere lengthening and increased telomerase activity in lymphocytes.

GH secretagogues (CJC-1295 + Ipamorelin) stimulate the endogenous pulsatile release of growth hormone, avoiding the hypothalamic-pituitary axis suppression caused by exogenous GH. This makes them metabolically safer for long-term use.

In Spain, the regulatory situation is complex: some peptides are registered as medicines in other countries but are prescribed under compassionate use. Others are prepared at compounding pharmacies. BPC-157 has no clear EU regulation but is prescribed at specialist clinics. It is essential to obtain them under medical prescription with verified provenance.
